Miriam Weber Brown earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Wittenberg University with emphasis in piano and harp. Later she earned a Masters in School Counseling from the University of Dayton. Miriam is a member of the National Music Teachers Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and the American Harp Society. Miriam has taught elementary music in Gahanna for 25 years, incorporating music techniques of Kodaly, Orff and Dalcroze. Her mission was to foster music appreciation and creativity in her students. "In my piano teaching, I will utilize several approaches in order to work through a difficult passage including clapping, stepping, and movement. To shape a well-rounded musician, I cover scales and chords, theory, ear training, and composing simple pieces. I encourage good technique and musical playing. I like to share helpful practice hints. I like to record a student's performance for self-evaluation or for keeping. Learning the piano opens up the whole world of music, and also enables one to learn other musical disciplines easier." |
