Sunday, November 29 – 8, 9:30, & 11 am

Thank you for joining us in worship this morning! Here are the congregational lyrics and prayers for all our TraditionalWorship service. You can tune into the service at 89.5 FM on your car radio.

Responsive Call to Worship:

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Leader: Let us pray together:

All: O God, eternal source of expectancy, hope and human destiny, we await with eagerness the coming of your Son and for your fuller revelation in time and history. Through the Advent of your Christ, through the more complete commitment of our own lives, and through your Spirit live and reign among us on this earth. In Jesus' name, Amen.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife, and discord cease;
Fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

The Lighting of the Advent Wreath

Leader: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Through him all things were made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. Light is the symbol of creation.
In the beginning, God said,

People: Let there be Light!

Leader: Light is the symbol of Christ’s coming to earth. Jesus said,

People: I am the Light of the World

Leader: Light is the symbol of God’s presence in us. Each believer is told

People: Let your Light shine!

Unison and Silent Prayers of Confession

God of Advent, we live imperfect lives and yet you call us to live and love as you do. This Advent season, enable us to lay down those things that restrict and restrain the abundant life you so desire for us. Reveal to us those ways we can take up and take upon ourselves those things that draw us closer to you and to each other. Help us to know that we live in the promise that you will fulfill your will for this earth. Gather your people closer together to begin anew our watch for the coming of your Promised One.

Response: Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus | vs. 1

Come, Thou long-expected Jesus,
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us;
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

Message: Gifts Only Heaven Can Give (John 1:1-5, 14)

People, Look East

People, look east. The time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able,
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look east and sing today:
Love the guest is on the way.

Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare,
One more seed is planted there:
Give up your strength the seed to nourish,
That in course the flower may flourish.
People, look east and sing today:
Love the rose is on the way.

Stars, keep the watch. When night is dim
One more light the bowl shall brim,
Shining beyond the frosty weather,
Bright as sun and moon together.
People, look east and sing today:
Love the star is on the way.

Angels, announce with shouts of mirth
Christ who brings new life to earth.
Set every peak and valley humming
With the word, the Lord is coming.
People, look east and sing today:
Love the Lord is on the way.

Closing Hymn: Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates

Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates,
Behold, the King of glory waits;
The King of kings is drawing near;
The Savior of the world is here!

Fling wide the portals of your heart;
Make it a temple, set apart
From earthly use for heaven’s employ,
Adorned with prayer, and love, and joy.

Redeemer, come! I open wide
My heart to Thee; here, Lord, abide.
Let me Thy inner presence feel;
Thy grace and love in me reveal.
