Leadership and Ministry: Understanding the Roles of Elders, Deacons, and Trustees

At Central College Presbyterian Church (CCPC), our congregation is guided by a dedicated team of leaders, each contributing unique skills and perspectives to fulfill our mission. Let's delve into the distinct roles of Ruling Elders, Deacons, and Trustees:

Ruling Elder: Nurturing Faith and Discernment: Ruling Elders serve as shepherds of our flock, embodying wisdom and mature faith. Chosen by the congregation, they don't "lord it over" but discern the church's fidelity to the Word of God. Alongside teaching elders, they provide leadership, spiritual discernment, and discipline, overseeing the life of the congregation and fostering relationships within the wider church community.

Deacon: Compassion, Witness, and Service: The ministry of Deacon at CCPC is one of compassion, witness, and service. Grounded in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ, Deacons extend care to the poor, hungry, sick, lost, friendless, and oppressed. Their mission encompasses addressing distress caused by unjust policies or structures, reflecting Christ's love through tangible acts of kindness and support.

Trustee: Stewardship and Fiduciary Obligations: The Board of Trustees, governed by the Ohio Revised Code Section 1702, assumes fiduciary responsibilities to uphold CCPC's mission. Trustees ensure wise use of church resources, honoring four legal duties: Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty, Duty of Compliance, and Duty to Maintain Accounts. Through prudent stewardship, Trustees safeguard the financial integrity of our organization.

In unity, our Elders, Deacons, and Trustees work harmoniously, contributing their unique strengths to nurture our faith, extend compassion, and uphold responsible stewardship. Together, they form an integral part of CCPC's commitment to serving our congregation and the broader community.
